good life, good death, good grief

Scottish Compassionate Communities Toolkit

Community Engagement

The Compassionate Inverclyde Programme Lead initially engaged with four established local community groups. These discussions informed the development of a brief questionnaire and four inquiry questions for wider engagement:

Q1: What acts do you think a compassionate citizen would carry out if someone was ill or dying at home?

Q2: How compassionate is the community of Inverclyde?

Q3: What are your thoughts about engaging volunteers as compassionate citizens to help support people in the community who are ill or dying at home?

Q4: What are your thoughts about compassionate initiatives to combat loneliness?

A summary of the answers to these questions is available on p.20-24 of Compassionate Inverclyde Evaluation Report: A Deeper Dive.

Around 200 people of all ages with a wide spectrum of perspectives participated in 11 engagement events across Inverclyde. Responses to the four questions generated ideas that shaped the Compassionate Inverclyde work streams.

This approach was about engaging with the community, actively listening to what matters to local people, and working together to generate ideas and actions that might make a difference.
