Demystifying Death Week 2025
Taking place across Scotland from 5-11 May, Demystifying Death Week is about shining a light on death, dying and bereavement in Scotland. We are encouraging people to get involved by holding in-person and online events that bring death, dying and bereavement into the limelight.
Below is a list of events registered so far - these pages will be updated over the coming weeks. If you are organising an event that you’d like us to feature, please get in touch.
Daytime Death Café (Edinburgh)

Tuesday 6th May, 1:30pm - 3:00pm
The Crannie Community Hub, 9 Cranston Street, Edinburgh, EH8 8BE
This event is open to the public. Please book in advance.
A Death Café is a warm, open space where people come together to talk about one of life’s most universal, yet often avoided, topics: death. But it’s not a morbid affair! Instead, it’s an opportunity for honest conversation in a relaxed setting, over tea/coffee and cake. The idea is to break down the taboos and fears around death, allowing people to share thoughts, feelings, and personal experiences about mortality. This is hosted by Humanist Society Scotland. All are welcome and free to participate.

This event is open to the public. Please book in advance.
“You’re invited to join us at The Hub @ St Vincent’s on 6th May for a cuppa and cake and share an informal, open, inclusive conversation about death and dying. This isn’t a counselling or therapy group, but just a conversational space where we can talk openly about a subject that’s all too often considered taboo. There is no obligation or pressure for attendees to say anything at all – you can feel free to join us to hear from others.
Places are free of charge, but limited to 10 for the session, and can be booked at the link below:

Power of Attorney
Organised by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.
Tuesday 6th May 2025, 6.30pm-7.30pm.
Taking place online (MS Teams).
This event is open to the public. Booking in advance is required.
A Power of Attorney (POA) is a bit like an insurance policy: you hope you’ll never need it but if something unexpected happens, you’ll be glad you had the foresight to take it out.
Why do I need it? – you may feel that you have no reason to arrange this now, you’re not ill, not old – it’s never too early!
What are they? – a POA is a legal document to make decisions on your behalf because you are unable to do so yourself.
What do I need to know? – join us for an overview of what to think about and next steps.
