Demystifying Death Week 2023
Taking place across Scotland from 1-7 May, Demystifying Death Week is about shining a light on death, dying and bereavement in Scotland. We are encouraging people to get involved by holding in-person and online events that bring death, dying and bereavement into the limelight.
Below is a list of events registered so far - these pages will be updated over the coming weeks. If you are organising an event that you'd like us to feature, please get in touch.

Bereavement Support and Information Activities for Staff at Inverclyde Royal Hospital
Organised by Inverclyde Royal Hospital
1 - 7 May 2023.
These activities are for Inverclyde Royal Hospital staff.
As an acute hospital, Inverclyde Royal, supports patients and carers through their initial bereavement, in a compassionate and person-centred approach. When staff are bereaved, there is already a process in place to support them at the time, during, and returning to work. The Bereavement Charter Mark, which we are currently developing, will bring all the support and information together.
In Demystifying Death Week we will be providing an information stall to inform staff of the work that has been done, and what support is currently available and what we are developing on site. Alongside this there will be an opportunity for staff to be creative by painting a sun-catcher which will be hung outside in a newly developed staff space, resources for writing a poem or reflection, a memory tree of hearts, and to take and grow a sunflower at home.

You are invited to come along to our Demystifying Death event, which is being held in Bellfield Community Hub, 16B Bellfield Street, Portobello, EH15 2BP on Wednesday 26th April from 7:30 - 9pm in the large hall. There will be ample time to enjoy refreshments and of course, cake, while discussing the pre-set questions on the “menu” of attitudes towards death with your fellow participants. We will be joined by local Funeral Director, Murdo Chambers from Go As You Please for a Q&A. Murdo will answer any queries you may have on the role of the undertaker. This is a wonderful opportunity to ask a member of the funeral industry the questions that you always wanted to know, but were afraid to ask. This event is free, and everyone is welcome.
