Policy

Are you or your organisation involved in writing or commenting on organisational, local, regional or national policy?

If so, can you identify any opportunities to facilitate or encourage more openness and public involvement in death, dying and bereavement?

For example:

  • Encourage the organisation you work for, or employers in your area, to write a write a ‘what to do if someone dies’ policy, setting out the steps that should be taken if a colleague dies or becomes bereaved
  • Find out if your local primary or secondary school has a policy setting out what will happen if a pupil or staff member dies or becomes bereaved
  • If commenting on consultation documents released by your local authority, NHS Board, or the Scottish Government, bear in mind the values of Good Life, Good Death, Good Grief. Does the policy miss out this agenda? Are there ways that draft policies could be amended to encourage more openness and public involvement in death, dying and bereavement?
