Staff understand the importance of keeping families informed about how their relative is doing in hospital, and will do their utmost to make this happen. However, all staff are currently under considerable pressure, and there may be circumstances under which they cannot get in touch with relatives.
To help staff keep you in touch with your family, make sure you take a phone (topped up if it is ‘pay as you go’), tablet or other device (and charger!) with you to hospital. Make sure you have key contact details with you somewhere that staff can access them. Family can also phone the ward for an update.
