Recognise that this is a hugely difficult and distressing time for you and the people around you. It is natural to feel all kinds of difficult emotions. There is no right or wrong way to react to the situation you find yourself in.
Try to find ways of taking care of yourself, among the stresses of taking care of the person who is ill. It is difficult to find the time, but a short break, a walk, a breathing exercise, or a phone call with a friend, can help you to stay well and therefore better able to care for others.
Also, remember that though this is difficult, you can do it. With kindness, empathy and practicality, you can help the person you’re caring for to be as comfortable as possible.
